Meet Firstade, FOND's Tomato, Garlic & Thyme Beef Bone Broth

Meet Firstade, FOND's Tomato, Garlic & Thyme Beef Bone Broth

Meet Firstade, FOND’s organic, regeneratively-raised beef bone broth simmered with garlic, tomato, and thyme! You might be thinking, “why these basic ingredients?” Think of Firstade as an old favorite, reimagined. Though you can find its ingredients at your local farmer's market or maybe even in your backyard herb garden, we've combined them with our collagen-rich beef bone broth in a way that showcases the decadently nourishing experience that simple ingredients can provide.  In fact, Firstade clocks in at 80 calories, about double that of our other broths. It’s the perfect option if you are looking for that extra boost of protein and nutrition.

A few fast facts: Garlic is no stranger to those who cook often or are focused on building immunity, thyme is packed with vitamin C and vitamin A, and tomatoes are the primary source of the antioxidant lycopene. Studies have shown that levels of lycopene increase after cooking, and the canning process (an anaerobic environment) preserves the lycopene better than freezing or refrigerating. That’s why we use an extremely high-quality organic tomato sauce packaged in glass.

If you want the nitty gritty on each of our star ingredients, read on below.

Tomato

Tomatoes might seem like an odd choice for bone broth if you consider the fact that they’re technically a fruit. But we don’t let technicalities box us in ;).  When it comes to nutrition, tomatoes are actually categorized with vegetables. These low-calorie and low-carb fruits are full of amazing health benefits.

Tomatoes are a great source of Vitamins A, C and K, all of which support immunity, vision, and skin health. They also contain an antioxidant called lycopene, which is responsible for their red color. Aside from coloring tomatoes red, lycopene helps fight free radicals that can damage your cells and affect your immune system. Lycopene may also help lower your levels of LDL as well as your blood pressure.

Finally, the lycopene and vitamin C in tomatoes may also boost the production of collagen which in turn will aid your skin in staying firm and youthful looking. Combine that with the high amounts of collagen already in beef bone broth and you’ve got a superstar combination.

Thyme

Thyme is an herb in the mint family that’s used often in recipes. Aside from adding great flavor, it’s known for its health benefits as well.

First, thyme is full of Vitamins A & C as well as copper, fiber, iron, and manganese - all of which can help build up your immune system.

Thyme also contains an active substance called carvacrol. In research, carvacrol has been shown to affect neuron activity in ways that boosted the subjects’ feelings of well-being, meaning that consuming thyme can have a positive effect on your feelings and mood.

Garlic

Garlic is the original “food-as-medicine” superfood, dating as far back as 400 BC. It’s a plant in the Allium family, closely related to onions, shallots and leeks.

Garlic is best known for boosting the function of the immune system. It has also been shown to reduce total and LDL cholesterol, particularly in those who have high cholesterol.

It may even help you detox from heavy metal exposure! In one study, garlic was shown to significantly reduce lead toxicity and related symptoms. And garlic contains antioxidants that protect against cell damage and aging, which may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other degenerative diseases.

If these benefits aren’t enough to convince you to get your hands on this protein-packed broth, we don’t know what is! Here’s how we recommend using it:

  • Sip it straight. Firstade is our most filling bone broth at double the calories of our other flavors..
  • Use it in recipes!
  • Drink it post-workout for recovery.
  • Drink it to reach a certain protein goal without bloat or that stuffed feeling (we’re looking at you, pregnant mamas!).
